LONGPARK TORQUAY MOTTO WARE COVERED CANDY JAR
Devon, England, circa 1930s–1950s
Motto is “My worst word is welcome and welcome again.”
A delightful example of traditional English Torquay motto ware by Longpark Pottery, featuring cream hand-lettered wording against a rich dark glazed ground with warm ochre and cream decorative accents.
Motto ware became especially popular in the Devon region during the early-to-mid 20th century, prized for its whimsical sayings, handmade character, and cottage charm. This covered form was originally intended as a candy or sweet jar but also works beautifully today as a decorative accent piece for kitchens, shelves, or English country interiors.
The unusual hand-painted motto adds personality and conversation value, while the rich glaze and compact proportions make it an especially charming display piece.
Marked “Longpark Torquay” to underside.
