An authentic Victorian-era English coffee pot in pewter/Britannia metal, bearing its original registration marks for George & John Dean and dated September 12, 1845 beneath the base. Pieces with fully legible registration details like this are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in such an honest, untouched state.
The underside retains the original stamped marks including:
“REGISTERED BY GEORGE & JOHN DEAN 12th SEPTᵣ 1845”
along with the early British “Rd” registration lozenge and pattern numbers.
Crafted in Britannia metal — a refined pewter alloy popular throughout Victorian England — this substantial coffee pot features a beautifully balanced silhouette with elegant proportions, hand-finished construction, and deep natural patina acquired over nearly two centuries.
The original finial appears to have been repaired or replaced long ago with a hand-fashioned wooden element, adding remarkable folk character and evidence of the object’s long working life. Rather than diminishing the piece, it gives it the soulful practicality often seen in genuinely used 19th-century household wares.
