Antique Pressed Glass Cheese Dome & Plate
Late Victorian Era | c. 1870–1895
This antique pressed glass cheese dome and matching plate
date to the late Victorian period, when pressed glass production
flourished in North America. Made using molded glass techniques
popular in the United States, pieces such as this were designed for
everyday use while still offering decorative appeal for the Victorian table.
The dome features deep vertical ribbing with a faceted knop handle
and an etched laurel leaf band encircling the lower section. The matching
plate displays a classic geometric starburst pattern, typical of late 19th-century
pressed glass tableware.
Pressed glass cheese domes were essential serving pieces in Victorian
households, used to protect cheeses, butter, and other table items
before modern refrigeration. Today, they remain highly collectible and
equally valued as functional décor pieces.
