Victorian Hand-Painted Porcelain Triple Candy Dish
Circa 1880–1900
This elegant Victorian porcelain candy dish features a graceful triple divided
form, designed for serving sweetmeats, bonbons, or sugared confections in the
late 19th century. The dish is richly moulded with scrolling details and a central
scroll handle, allowing it to be passed easily at the table — a charming feature
of Victorian parlour ware.
Each of the three sections is individually hand-painted with delicate violets,
a highly popular floral motif during the Victorian era, symbolizing modesty
and affection. The soft pastel blue ground, creamy porcelain body, and subtle gilt
accents reflect the refined decorative taste of the period.
Although unmarked, the quality of the porcelain, style of hand painting, and
sculptural form suggests European origin, most likely Germany or Austria,
regions well known for producing fine decorative porcelain in the late 19th century.
Any original mark was likely lightly applied and has worn away with age, which
is not uncommon for pieces of this era.
Condition:
Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Light wear to the
gilt is consistent with age and enhances its authentic Victorian character.
Dimensions:
Approximately 8" x 6" x 2"
A beautiful and functional decorative piece, ideal for a Victorian or
European-inspired interior, a porcelain collection, or as an elegant
accent on a dressing table or dining display.
