Details

Hungary • Mid-Century • Stamped/Marked
Striking sculptural porcelain dish produced by the renowned Zsolnay factory of Pécs, Hungary, celebrated worldwide for its luminous eosin glaze—an iridescent metallic finish developed in the late 19th century that shifts between bronze, gold, and subtle green tones depending on the light.
This beautifully modelled piece features a dramatic hunting scene in relief, with two hounds pursuing a wild boar along the rim of the dish. The sculptural composition wraps around the bowl, creating wonderful movement and highlighting the rich metallic glaze across the raised surfaces.
The underside bears the Zsolnay mark, confirming production by the famous Hungarian ceramics house.
Originally designed as a gentleman’s catch-all or desk tray, it is ideal for holding cufflinks, coins, watches, or pocket change. The sporting hunting motif also makes this a wonderful gift for a groom, groomsman, or Father’s Day, particularly for someone who appreciates traditional sporting themes or classic European ceramics.
The warm bronze-gold eosin glaze gives the porcelain the appearance of aged metal while retaining the refined craftsmanship for which Zsolnay pottery is known.
