Details
A charming Continental European cast brass double inkwell dating to the late 19th–early 20th century (circa 1890–1910), executed in the elegant Art Nouveau style.
This beautifully cast desk accessory features a striking sunflower motif framed by flowing foliate lines, a hallmark of the Art Nouveau movement. The pierced decorative backplate and organic lines give the piece both sculptural presence and delicate visual movement typical of turn-of-the-century decorative arts.
Unlike many lighter desk accessories of the period, this example is made from solid cast brass rather than thin stamped sheet metal, giving it a satisfying weight and a rich aged patina developed over more than a century.
The piece was originally designed as a dual inkwell, allowing a writer to keep two inks at hand while working at a Victorian or Edwardian writing desk. Today, these antique desk pieces are highly sought after not only by collectors of Art Nouveau design but also by those looking for distinctive decorative objects.
The dual wells make this piece wonderfully versatile. It works beautifully as a small jewelry holder for rings or earrings, a desk organizer, or simply as a decorative accent on a bookshelf, writing desk, or vanity.
The warm antique brass patina highlights the intricate sunflower and flowing botanical design, making this a particularly attractive example of everyday decorative metalwork from the Art Nouveau period.
